Introduction

Tree Pose, or Vrikshasana, is a fundamental yoga posture that enhances physical and mental balance. By standing on one leg and placing the other foot on the inner thigh or calf, this pose improves stability and focus. Practicing Tree Pose helps cultivate concentration and a strong mind-body connection.

Mastering Tree Pose

  1. Start in Mountain Pose

    • Begin standing tall with your feet together and arms at your sides.
    • Distribute your weight evenly across both feet.
  2. Shift Your Weight

    • Shift your weight onto your left foot.
    • Lift your right foot off the ground.
  3. Place Your Foot

    • Place the sole of your right foot on the inner thigh or calf of your left leg.
    • Avoid placing your foot on your knee.
  4. Find Your Balance

    • Press your right foot into your left leg and your left leg into your right foot.
    • Engage your core to maintain balance.
  5. Position Your Arms

    • Bring your hands to a prayer position at your chest.
    • Alternatively, extend your arms overhead with palms facing each other.
  6. Focus Your Gaze

    • Find a fixed point in front of you to focus on.
    • This helps maintain your balance.
  7. Hold the Pose

    • Take deep, steady breaths while holding the pose.
    • Aim to hold the pose for 5-10 breaths, gradually increasing the duration as you become more comfortable.
  8. Switch Sides

    • To release, lower your right foot back to the ground.
    • Repeat the pose on the other side.
